Christine Bettencourt (Owner) & Nancy Gimenez (Studio Manager)

DayZee Barajas

DayZee Barajas began dance at the age of  7 years old taking hip hop classes at a local community center.
Realizing how much she enjoyed performing, she started taking acting classes at Canaris Program and
auditioned for commercials landing her first role in a Kit Kat commercial. She went on to participate in school
musicals such as Once on This Island, Guys & Dolls and A Funny Thing Happened on The Way To The Forum.
While still acting and singing she joined her high school dance company, which featured many different styles
of dance such as; jazz, tango, swing, and hip hop.  She later went to Lincoln high school, a local performing
arts school
where she continued to train and pursue dance. After high school she joined a local Dance Studio
and trained extensively in Jazz and Lyrical for a few more years under the instruction of Keith Banks. She later
moved on to Hip Hop workshops under the instruction of Krisuan Rosalejos and joined a Competitive Hip Hop
Crew in San Francisco called Aftermath, where they went on to compete in competitions such as Battlefest 360
and Collaboration. Wanting to gain new experiences she started back up dancing for Artists such as Cristian
Castro, Xavier Toscano & Los Recoditos just to name a few. Currently she is still back up dancing and is teaching many different
styles of Dance, She is trained in Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Ballet and Swing and plans to teach and spread dance to a
nyone who is willing to learn.

 

Donny Mozzetti
Donny is a California native, raised in San Jose.  Currently, Donny is certified as a Message Therapist and is
attending school to get his degree in Physical Therapy.  He has joined the Dance Zone staff as our Gymnastics
Director/Instructor  and is a USAG certified gymnastics coach.  Donny has taught gymnastics for 8 years,
working with all ages, starting at Mommy and Me classes all the way through Power Tumbling.  Another area
of expertise for Donny is cheerleading. He was on the United Spirit Assoc. for 8 years and has been a
part of the 49ers, Raiders, Sacramento Kings and UCLA half time shows. Donny is a certified USASF
Cheerleading Coach for levels 1-5 and has coached competitive nationally ranked high school, jr. high and
all star teams. In the summer he works for JAMZ teaching cheerleading summer camps to kids of all ages.
You can find Donny at the 49er games as their first ever on field crowd leading team, The 49er Touch
Down Team. Donny shows his enthusiasm when cheering competitively  with a college all star team of
Northern California. We are very happy that Donny has joined our Dance Zone team.
Jessica Bettencourt

Jessica Bettencourt started dancing at only 18 months old, and took the stage for the first
time at the age of five. At seven years old she was asked to be a part of a performance
and
competition team where she furthered her training in styles such as: ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap,
and hip hop. At the age of ten Jessica was asked to perform in “ 42nd Street ” for a banquet
dinner put on by the New York Talent Agency. Jessica Bettencourt continued competing for
different teams for a total of nine years winning soloist awards such as “Best commitment to the
choreography” and the Company Dance leadership scholarship for three consecutive years.
As a junior in high school she auditioned and was accepted to be a part of the Archbishop Mitty
Royals dance team. As a senior she served as one of the team’s lieutenants helping build team
unity, and assisting in choreography. Jessica Bettencourt is now entering her second year at
San Jose State University where she is studying dance. She is very passionate about dance and loves
teaching and passing along everything she has learned.

                        Kaitlyn Landenza
Kaitlyn Landeza was born and raised in San Jose, California. She started taking lessons at the
 age of 3 learning Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Gymnastics at Sheri’s Born to Dance studio.   Kaitlyn carried on her dance
lessons at South Bay Dance Center where she continued to learn Ballet and Pointe, Tap, Jazz as well as Contemporary. 
Once at Presentation High School, Kaitlyn danced for their dance team for three years under the guidance of
Coach Sara Fugate.  They competed in local competitions around the bay area, and was invited to contend at
Nationals in Orlando, Florida.  In 2008, Presentation’s Dance Team took 1st place in hip-hop and were named
National Champions overall.  In 2010, they took home eight trophies which includes 1st place in Character,
2nd place in Small Contemporary, and 2nd place in Medium Lyrical.

Kaitlyn currently attends De Anza College majoring in Child Development.  She plans to attend UC Irvine in
hopes to major in Dance.  Kaitlyn was accepted into The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in
Los Angeles, California. Kaitlyn now teaches at Studio 10 Dance in Cupertino owned by Keith Banks.
Her future aspirations include opening her own dance studio here in the Bay Area, as well as dance on
Broadway.  She hopes to one day have children of her own who have the same passion and love for dance
as she does.


Krista Rentschler

Krista has been dancing for 19 years. She has trained in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Pointe, Lyrical
and Modern. Krista’s dance education began at the age of two at a local studio here in the bay area
where she received the majority of her dance education. At the age of ten Krista began competing with dance
teams and since then has attended many competitions and conventions where her teams have
received high recognition. Krista continued her education of dance while attending Monta Vista
High School in Cupertino where she was a proud member of the Nationally ranked
Marquesas
Dance Team. Krista has worked with artists/choreographers such as Nick Lazzarini, Cindy Welik,
Sonya Tayeh and Chris Jacobson. Currently Krista is a Senior at San Jose State University working on her undergraduate studies in Child Adolescent Development. She is looking forward to graduating in a year
and continuing her studies to receive her Masters in Child Development. When there is free time Krista
still enjoys taking dance classes and continues her training. Krista loves that she is able to work and share her
passion for dance with others as well as work with a variety of age groups here at the friendly environment
of The Dance Zone.

                                                        Daniel Arizmendi
   

Daniel Arizmendi, an international martial arts champion, began his classical training at the Redding Ballet Academie's Pre-Professional program; and he also was privately coached by Natasha Morken. For six years, he was a leading male dancer and choreographer for the Redding City Ballet and Redding Ballet Academie. In 2008, he founded the Belariz Ballet school, performed for FACT/SF's Home Season 3.0, and was a founding member of Artesan Dance Company. As a choreographer and teacher, he creates original works and teaches master classes for dance companies, schools, and universities.


Meredith Flythe
Meredith has been dancing since the age of 2, spending the majority of her training under
Janet Nordgren-Taddie, Janell Tomblin-Brown, Bob Macke and Deborah Skinner.
She received her
B.A. in Dance Performance/Choreography as well as a minor in musical theater in June of 2000 from
San Jose State University. Her most recent training comes from Robert Moses, Janet Van Swoll,
Janie Scott, Fred Mathews, and Gary Masters. While at SJSU she was given the opportunity to
represent SJSU at the American College Dance Festival as well as touring with their musical theater
company "Company One" for 2 years.
She is trained in Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Modern, Ballet,
Musical Theater, Pilates Dance Yoga, Dance History, Choreography and Costume Design. Her
professional appearances include a television pilot featuring Janie Greggins, Billy Hufsy from "FAME"
and MC Hammer. She has also been a dancer for both Paramount’s Great America as well as
Disneyland. Meredith has also worked and performed in many of the AIDS benefits at Fort Mason with Anne Frazier and Ross Mgowen.
She was a guest dancer for 4 years in the Oakland Ballet "Nutcracker". She has also choreographed and
performed for many famous Asian vocal artists such as Coco Lee and Jackie Chan. She has taught all around the Bay Area as well as
Southern California, for the past 18 yrs teaching ages 2 through adult.
She has taught 2 years at SJSU- Jazz I and Jazz II. She also has choreographed for SJSU’s musical theater company "Company One".
Michael Mappala
Michael Mappala is best known for his R&B and soulful influence, as well as his passion and
commitment to dance and the community. Mappy has been affiliated with dance companies like
Ronnie Reddick's City Slam, Culture Shock San Francisco (later renamed Culture Shock Oakland),
freestyle dance crew Mystic Disciples, Mind Over Matter, Funkanometry SF, Phoenix Dance
Company. He has taught classes and companies all over the Bay Area, throughout Southern
California, and in Las Vegas. He has also worked on a variety of projects, dancing and
choreographing for Bay Area recording artists: Malyssa, Desi, Immij, and Kim Del Fierro. He also choreographed and danced for the Black-Eyed Peas, in the music video "Bebot".
In September 2006, Mappy co-founded reDEFINE youth urban dance company. With Mappy
as Artistic Director, reDEFINE went on to perform at several major venues in their first year such as
the Golden State Warriors Game and Battlefest Live 360. As a full-time hip-hop director at Dancemakers Studio of the Arts, in Newark,
a PDC dancer and a director for reDEFINE youth urban dance company, Mappy continues to live out his passion for dance in his
daily life. He is constantly teaching and inspiring up-and-coming dancers, and looking for ways to bring recognition to the Bay Area
dance community.
